We will discuss the two pillars of Trust Company business, differentiating between deferred services and immediate services, and when and how to engage both. This is your chance to learn the ins and outs of working with a Corporate Trust Company.
Jandy John, Director of Estates and Trusts at Concentra Trust, and Stephen McCotter, Senior Wills and Estates Advisor, will explain the end-to-end process, and will also illustrate the various ways trust companies themselves rely on the expertise of third parties outside of their area of expertise, including lawyers, investment managers, insurance professionals, and accountants, as they seek to provide a holistic estate planning experience to their clients.
Stephen first graduated from Western University with a degree in Economics and Finance, before spending 12 years as a small business owner. In 2006, Stephen returned to Western University, where he earned his Juris Doctor from the Faculty of Law. During his time at law school, Stephen completed the tax stream of concentration, and earned the James McKee Award for Excellence in Taxation. Upon graduation, Stephen articled with a national law firm in Toronto. After being called to the Bar for Ontario, Stephen ran his own general law practice for five years, with a focus on estates.
After leaving private practice, and before joining Concentra Trust, Stephen spent the following decade with two major Canadian financial institutions as Counsel and Senior Will and Estate Advisor with their Private Wealth Management divisions. In addition to his legal and tax background, Stephen holds a TEP designation as a member of the Society of Trusts and Estates Practitioners, has successfully completed his Life License Qualification Program (LLQP) in insurance, as well as the Canadian Securities Course.
