This presentation covers a high level overview of the role of the Public Guardian and Trustee (PGT), which upholds and protects the rights of those under the age of 19 as well as vulnerable adults. Learn more about situations that involve children’s legal rights or financial interests, especially in cases where a minor is a beneficiary of an estate or trust.  The PGT is there to make sure that others are acting in the child’s best interests, and to become directly involved where necessary.

Sometimes the PGT is involved in administering an estate where children or incapable adults are involved, or acting as litigation guardian to commence a will variation claim.  In BC, the PGT administers children’s trusts, either by statute, court order or by agreement. Find out more about the processes and timelines for these circumstances and how they may impact your clients’ estate planning.
