Caution: Travelling Trusts.  Advising trustees and beneficiaries of existing trusts can be a mine field for the practitioner who fails to consider the governing law of the trust.  Trusts are complicated. This session will provide tips on what to look for when reviewing a trust from another Canadian jurisdiction.


Fiona Hunter, Partner - Horne Coupar LLP

Fiona Hunter enjoys assisting clients in avoiding disputes in estates through careful planning with a particular emphasis on trusts. Fiona has a Masters of Law in trusts, and has written extensively about them and other estate planning matters. She teaches professional development and has been an adjunct professor at the University of Victoria law school.

She is qualified as an expert in trust law by the Supreme Court of BC. Fiona is also a designated Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP).

This book examines both the general and the technical issues that can arise in this area of the law, and deftly combines advice on the substantive law with useful drafting direction from experts in the field.
